Pachube, an open source platform enables developers to connect sensor data to the Web and to build their own applications on it. Data is sent in real time and also allows community’s to benefit from this data around the world.
One particular news feed that I found interesting was a Light and motion tracker for a director’s desk at DET5Labs .The feed records a DataStream that relates to a person’s motion in relation light in West Virginia, America. The reason for finding this particular interesting is that you wouldn’t have to be physically in the same room as the fixed sensors to understand key information on the way a person performs or affects movement. For this assignment ill will be looking at ways to represent light as a directive force, controlling movement in my desired environment.
Sensors may also be used to allow business to control its capacity to generate goods and save electricity as they understand in detail the way the engine performs over a period of time. Linking this feed with energy use may also be something that the business inspires to do in order to lower their impact on global warming and carbon footprints. For example they could also test productivity in low dim office environment compared to highly illuminated skylight atmospheres to see if employees preferred differences.
It’s great how the site shows the interrelationship of data in real time to be able to respond to conditions in the physical world. Monitoring the world around us is vital to moving forward so the future I could see households using this application to track consumption of a range of household activities as well as businesses maximising profits from where they need improvements.
